Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is federal legislation that addresses
the security and privacy of confidential client information. Designed to protect against fraud and abuse,
as well as improve administrative efficiency, the privacy portion of these regulations goes into effect
April 14, 2003. The Momentum for Mental Health Quality Improvement department has reviewed all operations
to ensure compliance with the new regulations.
